The other day, I was walking into the Plaza where my office is located and overhead the gate keepers discussing amongst themselves, they were comparing the attitudes of shop owners, praising those who give them tips when going and of course castigating those who do not. I excused them and sat amongst them and took up the matter with them. And I asked them one simple question "Are you not paid your salaries?" they all replied that they are paid on monthly basis and so I asked why they should expect shop owners to tip them, and they gave various reasons including the fact that it is expected as a way of appreciating their services.
