Morning Vibes With Dr. Jerry - the First
Hello and welcome to
#MorningVibesWithDrJerryTheFirst-Episode 57
Title: Don't Ever Stop Believing
She
married the man who had been her heart-throb right from when she was a teen, he
was a long distance truck driver and she was a home maker; they had two kids in
quick succession (two boys) and then tragedy struck, he was involved in a
head-on collision on a night trip and he passed on leaving her stranded alongside
her kids. The Children were 7 and 5 when their Father died, leaving them alone
in the world with no other relatives except their Mother. She determined to
raise her kids the best way she could and so she picked up house- keeping jobs.
First it was a 3 pm to 9 pm job which gave her time to prepare her kids for the
Primary School, bring them back before setting out for the job. She did that
for 3 years and with increasing responsibilities, she decided to pick a second
job; this time it was 6 am to 12 noon. She would wake up quite early to prepare
Breakfast, then come back by 12.30, to prepare Lunch and Supper for the kids,
since they were likely to be asleep by the time she came back from work. She
made the older boy at 12 to grow up quickly and assume responsibility for his
younger brother at home and out of the house. 8 years down the lonely road, she
noticed that she was becoming increasingly weak, she attributed it to overwork
and decided not pay any attention to it; but then one fateful day, she
collapsed at work and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where tests revealed
that she had cancer. When the news was broken to her, everyone thought she would
break down in tears, but she looked the Doctor straight in the eyes and told
him that cancer may be ravaging her body, but that God would keep her alive to
see her two kids through High School and through College and after then she
would be ready to submit and succumb to the cancer. She refused to let her sons
know of the Doctor's diagnosis and even when they inadvertently see her
cringing in pains when would dismiss it as nothing by telling them that she
still missed their Father so much. Every day before stepping out of her house,
she would repeat to herself that "cancer maybe ravaging her body but she
earnestly believed that God shall keep her to see her kids through High School
and through College and then she would be ready to go" she believed so
much in that mantra that it became second nature to her. She threw herself into
her two jobs without paying any attention to herself. After High School, the
first son was fortunate to receive a scholarship to study Medicine and by the
time the second son was through with High School too, he was lucky to be
granted a scholarship to study Law. With both sons in College and not having
the need to earn much money now, she slowed down and that brought the pangs and
jabbing pains more frequent and closer. Yet she kept believing that she would
see her two sons graduate from College before leaving for anywhere. By the time
the first son graduated as a Medical Doctor, she was beside herself with joy
and told those who came congratulating her that she still has one son yet to
graduate. And on the second son's graduation as a Lawyer, she couldn't find
words to express her joy. Just as the ceremonies marking the graduation of the
second son were dying down, she collapsed and was rushed to the nearby
hospital; Doctors examined her and found out that the cancer had spread all
over her body that she would go any time without notice. The Sons were shocked
to hear that their Mother had cancer and when they asked her on her sick bed,
how long she had known of the diagnosis, she told them "right from when
they were in the Primary School" meaning that for more 20 years of their
lives, she had had cancer and did not divulge the info to any of them and when
again they asked why she kept it all to herself, she answered that "I
never stopped believing that I will be alive to see you both graduate" and
now that it has been achieved, I am ready to go and that night while they were
busy making plans on how to transfer her to the best Cancer Treatment Centre in
their State, she passed on. Believing is the first step towards receiving
miracles and even up to this day, miracles still happen. So have you lost hope
about a project or a need of yours? Just like this woman believed and her
belief kept her going for more than 20 years, never stop believing.
