Morning Vibes With Dr. Jerry - the First
Hello and welcome to
#MorningVibesWithDrJerryTheFirst-Episode 103
Title: The
Impossible Is Still Possible!!
The other day, I was in
consultation with a young man who told me that he has been working at one job
for the past 8 years and has made no appreciable progress. I asked him what he
meant by "appreciable progress" and he said that he has neither been
promoted nor had a salary increment, and that even the salary payment is
inconsistent, sometimes coming as late as the next month end for the past
month. To say I was shocked is beyond words, so I asked him what he was doing
there? and he said he was an Office Assistant. Further interactions revealed
that he picked up the job when he was out of Secondary School and didn't want
to be idle, he had hoped to raise some money before furthering his education,
but someone he got stuck because for starters his Father passed away, and he
became the man of the house being Father and brother to his other 6 siblings
(he is the first child and son), then his girl friend became pregnant and he
was "forced" to marry her, and so he became an unprepared Husband and
Father, thereby compounding the problems he already had. So even though he is
not finding any joy at the job he is presently doing but he is afraid that if
he lost it, his world would finally collapse on his head. His "wife"
(they are yet to be officially married) is a full time housewife (completely
dependent on him), 3 of his siblings have dropped out of School and hawking
petty things around the neighbourhood. His mother is in the village with the
other 3 of his siblings who are practically doing nothing. He is really
overburdened. I told him that even though he had made many mistakes in his
short stay here so far, but it is not yet the end of life and that he should
develop strength and confidence from inside to be able to overcome these
challenges of his. I reminded him that the only persons who have lost all and
for whom there is no more worry or challenge are the dead people and so while
we are still alive, we still have worries and challenges to overcome (no matter
the age, though). I then asked him to take stock of his current situation and
then address each issue squarely. He needs to address the issue of his
"job stagnation" - (I asked him to start something on the sideline -
no matter how small) before approaching his Employer for a raise; he needs to
address the issue of his "wife" who is presently "not
earning"; he needs to address the issue of his 3 siblings who are hawking and
being exposed to the dangers of running around during busy hours, talking to
me, really helped him to exhale and pick up his life, it was like a load relieved.
He felt lighter both in countenance and structure when he was leaving and told
me that he would keep in touch. My final parting words to him were; these
challenges you are having now might seem impossible to resolve but with hard
work, determination and dedication, nothing is impossible; difficult? yes but
still doable. People have lived through these challenges before you and so
shall you, just commit yourself to solving them and before long, your mouth
shall be filled with laughter like them that dream. How about you? are you
seeing the impossibilities in the challenges facing you? Clear your head and
shine your eyes, impossibility exists only in the air for a man whose mind is infinitely
possible.
