Morning Vibes With Dr. Jerry - the First
Hello and welcome to
#MorningVibesWithDrJerryTheFirst-Episode 59
Title: Failure
Is Not Final Until You Hands Up!!
When
I was young, I used to enjoy Bongos Ikwue's song which has these lyrics
"If you try and fail, don't ever give up but remember that life is what you
make it. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, so take a chance and give it
your all" or something close to that. It was one song that really
motivated me a great deal especially while trying to find a balance between
what I was then and what I wanted to be. When eventually I made my way into the
Medical School, I met up with my Academic Adviser who looked me straight in the
eyes (eye ball to eye ball) and told me in plain language that Medical School
is not for the faint hearted, I told him I already knew that and he answered
back "you know nothing" and proceeded to tell me the story of someone
who had been trying to become a Medical Doctor over 10 years (for a 6 year course)
and was still in School, to say I was shocked is an understatement. He failed Pre-med
(Year 1) and was advised to withdraw. He re-wrote JME and came back to the same
School (I wondered why); passed Pre-med (2nd year of the quest) this time
around but failed 2nd MB (1st Professional Examination); was asked to repeat;
repeated 2nd MB and passed at the 2nd attempt (6 years of the quest); by the
time he passed the 2nd MB, his mates who came in with him at the first instant,
were already graduating from the Medical School. His journey through the
Medical School was quite tortuous but he kept trudging on, hoping against all
hope that he would one day become a Medical Doctor and eventually he did. I
never got to know the guy in person but I guess, he must also have been an
ardent fan of Bongos Ikwue. I wondered how he would have felt, seeing his mates
moving on and leaving him behind at every stage of the Course, but I am sure to
him feeling was not as important as achieving the purpose for which he was in
the Medical School. Yes he failed several times but he refused to hands up and give
in; he realized that failure is not an end on its own and that it can be turned
around to success if one learns that it is only a temporary set back from the
pursuit of a set goal or objective. How about you? What is it that you have
been trying to achieve but have failed several times in the attempt? Is it time
to give up? or time to try again? I believe this short story in this broadcast
would help you make up your mind, no matter what, if your heart is still there
after several attempts to get it have proved null, go for it again, there can
be no last attempt at getting just what your heart beats faster for. Failure is
never final, don't let anyone deceive you and you are never a failure until you
finally throw in the towel.
Until I come your way
again, this is #MorningVibesWithDrJerryTheFirst
