Morning Vibes With Dr. Jerry - the First
Hello and welcome to
#MorningVibesWithDrJerryTheFirst-Episode 70
Title: Instead
Of Counting The Days, Make The Days Count!!
There
is no grown up person who does not have a tale to tell and it doesn't matter
its nature but it's still a tale anyways. And this may not even apply to only
grown ups. The other day I was attending a program in a Secondary School and I
overhead some "senior boys" discussing how it was like in the junior
classes, I overhead one say "when I WAS in JSS 3, it was like this and
like that; I put the word WAS in capital letter because that is where the tales
come from - the past. Some people call it reminiscences and others call it
memoirs but whatever term is used to describe it, it usually is a recount of
how "good" the "gone days" were and how worse the "now days" are.
When a man or woman as the case may be gets to the level where the past is more
appealing than the present, then s/he has completely resigned to fate and is
waiting for the last call. Nothing can kill a man slowly and even a woman like
constantly living in the past and neglecting to live in the present. He Who
formed us gave us eyes (two big eyes) but He did not place them at the back nor
on the sides, He placed them right in front, it is reasoned that the main aim
of placing the eyes in front is to emphasize the need for the owners to look
forward in everything that concerns life and living. If eyes were placed
behind, then there, would have served as the front of the owner but no, they
are in the front emphasizing the fact that no matter how sweet the past was, if
it is gone, then it is gone and the only way forward is the present leading out
to the future. If your days are drab and you keep living in the past, then you
are only counting the days as they go by; but if you live in the present and no
matter how drab the days want to be, you bring some semblance of activity to
spice them up, then you are able to make the days count. Making the days count
does not only mean making yourself happy, it includes more of reaching out to
someone and bringing a smile to that person. Making the day count could mean
volunteering at a Community Centre for a non-stipendiary community service.
Making the day count could mean visiting an orphanage and offering to just
cheer the inmates up and help them to be happy for a season. Making the day
count could mean going to the Hospital to chat up those whose legs are
suspended in the air and who are dying to have someone to talk to them and tell
them that it is okay and that life would get back to normal. There are loads of
ways to make the day count. So rather than being so self-absorbed and thus end
up counting the days, be other-absorbed and help put a smile on someone's face.
The reward is certainly eternal.
